My baby boys are one today!! I have Little’s birth story all written out nicely, saved and in a rotation for annual publication on her birthday. For the Twins? I don’t have much. Their birth was fairly non-eventful being a scheduled, uncomplicated c-section.
Hubs and I arrived at the hospital at 5am, went through the check in and surgery prep process; then promptly at 8:15 and 8:16 we had two, beautiful baby boys. Neither of them were exactly healthy at that point but we didn’t discover their health issues until a few weeks later. They passed all of their newborn screenings, latched to the breast like champs and we got to go home on schedule with both of them.
That’s when the real fun began. We discovered B2’s thyrhoid issues at their one week doctors appointment, which took us to the children’s hospital in downtown Indy for a battery of tests with a specialist. Once we got all of that sorted out, a week later he ended up in the ER with his laryngomalacia. It wasn’t a necessary ER trip really, but his breathing was so raspy, labored, and scary that we decided to take him in just to be safe. Which required another follow up with yet another specialist at the children’s hospital. The day we got B2’s official laryngomalacia diagnosis and could put our worries to rest about him, we returned from the visit with the ENT to discover B1 unable to eat, projectile vomiting bloody mucus.
We neglected to put B2 under the knife to correct his laryngomalacia, literally 12 hours before we ended up at another children’s hospital ER with B1, hearing that he was scheduled for emergency surgery to correct pyloric stenosis at a mere five weeks old.
After that, things settled down, but those first five weeks were a nightmare of doctors, hospitals and scary life altering moments.
I am so exceptionally thankful to have both of my baby boys make it to one year old. 2016 was one hell of a year for these little guys, but we did it! They made it, and they’re both thriving. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next year. 💕
