Finally had the opportunity to put my new weights to use over the weekend! It was like a Pumpkin Spice miracle, all the kids went down for their nap and slept for two hours, giving me enough time to log in and do the WOD from my Nowheresville gym. It was just a short 15min AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) with three basic movements and a sprint.
I was fairly excited to be able to even do the movements at 65lbs after being out of the gym for almost six months. With little to no equivalent training. I did a lot of body weight stuff for a few months right after I broke my hand, but hadn’t picked up my barbell in ages.
It felt soooooooooooooo gooooooooood to get some actual weight on the bar and challenge myself again. Actually, it felt great to get back to doing my usual movements from the ground instead of the hang movements I’d been doing for over a year due to pregnancy. My form is awful, I can feel it, and I really need to get to a gym with a coach at least once a week to work on that.
Although, some of that might just be the environment I’m working out in. Our apartment isn’t small by any means, but trying to swing a 7′ barbell around gets tedious and difficult with the furniture and baby stuff. I usually step off our patio into the courtyard, but finding a level spot in the courtyard with 30+ year old trees is quite a challenge. That might be contributing to my poor form somewhat too.
That, and twin pregnancy with a c-section destroying my core. I didn’t have the strongest core to begin with, but now it’s basically just a wiggly limp noodle holding me together lol. You never realize how much you use your core muscles until you can’t lol.
I think I did fairly well, all things considered. Even such a simple, quick workout did me in. Within hours my entire body began to ache with the sting of muscle fatigue. I’m still feeling it almost two days later. lol. I’ve missed it. Definitely glad to be getting back into the swing of things. I pulled out my yoga mat and did about half an hour of yoga on Saturday. I haven’t done that in almost two years!! lol.
I think I’ll be able to work them both back into my routine. I know I feel so much better when I get some work in, and the yoga helps with clarity of mind. I’ve just neglected making them a priority for a good while. Although taking care of newborn twins will do that to you, trying to build a house, sell a house, move all over the place, etc will do that do you.
