Security

So, you know those annoying updates you get for your computer every so often? The ones that take forever to install and generally become more of a hassle than anything else? APPARENTLY, those updates are kind of important if you want your computer’s remote access to be secure. Who knew?!

I’ve been battling someone for the past three days who gained remote access to my computer. I’d be in the middle of a project, and all of the sudden *blink* everything shut down. At first I thought it was my battery, because I do have a ten year old Macbook. Ten years is a long time, even for Apples and especially their batteries. I ordered a new one and replaced it yesterday. Even with a brand new fully charged battery, the computer would shut off right in the middle of whatever I was doing.

That’s when I started to suspect something more sinister at work. Especially when I could turn off my Airport and successfully work uninterrupted. So I set about to change all of my security settings AGAIN for the fourth time since last October. I became even MORE suspicious when every time I logged into a webpage to change my privacy settings the computer would shut down. I mean, let’s be honest here, computers are fickle machines, but that just screams trouble. I was about to give up and throw my computer across the room, when I decided to check the update box. lol. Low and behold, a security update for the remote access. *face palm*

I don’t know exactly who it was messing with me and I don’t particularly care since it seems to be fixed. Whomever it was didn’t actually DO anything aside from annoy me interrupting my work, and probably view the frumpy looking pregnant lady via my webcam. All of my financial info is safe and I don’t have any personal info stored on my computer. At least not any personal info you can’t get on the internet in the first place. So… I’m not even sure what the point was? Clearly someone has way too much time on their hands.

I mean it would be one thing if my privacy was violated and they actually DID something, but this is just confusing. Meh, I have much more important things to worry about  than random cyber criminals. Besides that, being upset or angry is bad for the twins and with everything else going on, goodness knows they need all the extra help they can get!

  1. Nah, we have all of that scrambled and encrypted. All Apples with the latest OS have remote access. It’s part of the whole cloud thing. Usually it’s awesome if your device is stolen, or you want to sync things. Apple just messed up a security setting somewhere along the line and people figured out how to take advantage of it. It’s all fixed with my security update, at least for now lol. I have had issues with my IP before, but those seem to be resolved. I’ll probably update my router again today just in case. People really need lives. I mean I don’t even do all that much right now, and I don’t have time to hack into things lol.
