Doctor, Doctor

So, for those of you who are new to my blogging shenanigans the past three times I’ve been to visit my General Practitioner, nothing was wrong with me. I mean I was sick, but there was nothing he could prescribe to help me. I just had to tough it out and hope things got better. What happens during my most recent bout of illness? I stay home and don’t even bother making an appointment and wasting the $20 co-pay to have him tell me I have to wait it out.

Until this morning when I was so short of breath I was beginning to get lightheaded. I’ve been battling a cough and chest congestion for almost two weeks. My Little picked it up from day care and I picked it up tending to her. She healed right up on her own, so I assumed I would as well. The whole breathing issue kind of scared me so I hopped in the car and went down to the Urgent Care, thinking they would prescribe me some antibiotics and I’d be on my way. Yes… That’s what I thought, but oh how wrong I was.

The doctor came in, took my vitals, listened to my chest and said: “Well, your lungs sound awful. I don’t have the necessary equipment to treat you in the office so we’re going to transfer you down to the ER and hopefully get you stabilized enough to go home. I can’t say for certain with out a chest X-ray, but it most definitely sounds like puemonia.”

I wasn’t entirely surprised by the diagnosis, because I had been noodling around on WebMd before I made my decision to go to the doctor, but I was surprised by the severity of it. I didn’t FEEL sick until last night. I thought I was getting better, apparently not. So, I called Hubs and told him they were transferring me to the ER and he found a babysitter for the Little and joined me. I had two bags of IV fluid, and three breathing treatments before they allowed me to go home, and even then I have a follow up appointment Wednesday to monitor my progress because my heart rate was still a bit high.

I swear, I can’t win with this medical system in the U.S. I go and try to prevent catashrophes, they do nothing, I go thinking I have mild symptoms and end up in the ER. It never fails. Lol. Needless to say I’m not feeling the greatest so my posts will probably be a bit scattered for a while. Not that anyone is truly waiting on baited breath for my next post, but.,. It’s whatever lol
