I think it’s time we stop bashing all narcissists.

This is exactly how I feel about the people who have wandered in and out of my life with NPD. No hatred, but I’m not going to put up with their shenanigans anymore either.

This post is probably going to make some of you angry or upset. I understand that. After all, many of us were badly damaged by the narcissists in our lives. Anger and even hatred is an understandable and very human reaction to their abuse.

There are a lot of people these days writing about narcissism and the sentiments found on the Internet about “narcs” and “N’s” is overwhelmingly negative:

— They can never change.
— There is no hope for them.
— They are monsters.
— They are demons.
— They aren’t human.
— God hates all narcs.
— They all deserve to burn in Hell.
— There is nothing good about them. Everything they do is evil.
— They were born evil. They are bad seeds.
— They never tell the truth.
— They have no emotions. They are machines.

  1. I agree with your comment about the abuse people with NPD get. I’m pretty sure that my sister has it but I think she’s one of those unfortunate people who will not and probably cannot change.

  2. It’s so hard to distinguish between malicious behaviors with NPD, but I also don’t believe the diagnosis should be an end all, doom and gloom, no hope diagnosis either. It is exceptionally hard to change ANY behavior pattern, but those who truly want to are able. It’s just so delicate between compassion vs the tough love they require. Especially with those prone to violence. :/


  3. Yes it is a hard and sometimes long journey to change behaviour. And yes, it would be tough for people who get aggressive/violent due to stress or frustration or because of a short fuse etc.
