House of Thanks: Day 7

Wrapping up our Week of Thanks here at the House of Hale, today I am thankful for my community. I know I do a lot of complaining about Nowheresville, and to say that it doesn’t get on my nerves 95% of the time would be dishonest, but for all of the annoying things if you look past it, really it’s a very nice little town. Nothing really displays that more than the ongoing clean up efforts after the tornadoes which rolled through on Nov. 17th.

I read an article in the local paper today that said the entire half of town which was affected was surveyed and secure in less that three hours. Everyone who lost their homes had a warm dry place to stay, the businesses were boarded up, and utilities were restored. Less than three hours after the storm rolled through. Communication between the various law enforcement districts, fire districts, and everyone else was impeccable. Especially for a tiny little community where this sort of thing only happens once every ten or so years. The disaster preparedness is amazing. When it really counts, Nowheresville doesn’t mess around, and that’s a very comforting thing to see.

And so, I am thankful that I am “stuck” here in Nowheresville. Even with the golf club wielding ruffians at Walmart, the obnoxious teenage vandals, and my annoying neighbors. Yes things could be better, but they could also be much worse. I need to stop complaining so much about it and look for the positive side. It’s there somewhere.

With that, I wish everyone a sincerely happy holiday! I’m taking a break the rest of the week, but I’ll be back on Monday. 🙂 Be sure to check out my article which launches on Friday at I’ll have direct links as soon as they become available.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! 😀
